Fashion Inspiration: Dessert 🍰

This one was a bit later than I intended because the WordPress editor ate the original finished post as I was doing some final polishing, but here it is back again. I originally started collecting images in the Pinterest board to plan for an inspiration post on reddit a few years ago, but I've added to it since then so I figured it'd be a fun update for the blog.As usual, I cite the photo sources when I can find them, but none of these are product endorsements.Nothing deeply philosophical here, just something easy and sweet. Lots of pastels on neutrals, and a variety of shapes from soft frills to architectural lines. Enjoy! 🍑https://thefirstyearblog.com/chocolate-chocolate-cake/Donna Karan at New York Fashion Week Fall 2009cookingbythebook.comMarchesaASOStherecipecritic.com caramel fudgeAnthropologiehttp://www.olivemagazine.com/recipes/baking-and-desserts/whisky-and-rye-salted-caramel-apple-pie/Bed StuSt-Agnithirstyfortea.comFree People "Karma" dressindulgewithmimi.comPradacamillestyles.comwilton.comAlexander McQueen Spring 2016Rahi CaliBurberryASOS DESIGN quilted shoulder bag with hardware in brownASOSPillsburyASOS DESIGN funnel neck sweat dress with faux fur sleevescookingclassy.com@nitrochiquepeppermayobarefoot contessaColor Me CourtneyEarth Eats on Indiana Public MediaForever 21Anthropologie "Judy" Rainbow Drop Headbandhttps://theredheadbaker.comASOSMonkikraftrecipes.com1960s Oscar de la RentaSally's Baking AddictionHalogen x Atlantic-Pacific

Outfits

Here are two outfits of mine that I felt fit in here πŸ™‚

Lemon Pie

2020-05-22

https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/creamy-lemon-pie/I originally made this inspired by Jane's outfits from Disney's Tarzan after seeing a @thedisneybound post, but when I was looking at the photos I kept thinking it would also work just as well for a lemon-cream pie dessert look πŸ€”I particularly like how the textures mirror the inspiration. The top is soft and poofy, the skirt has slightly more body, and the boots are the most structured.

Cupcake

https://therecipecritic.com/vanilla-cupcakes/Here's a look I specifically put together for the food-inspired theme on reddit. I think a multicolored headband like the one posted earlier would have worked a little bit better as an analogy for the sprinkles if I was trying to implement the exact cupcake above, but I could also imagine it being a bit of extra pink decorative frosting 🌸.I typically wear these trousers with crew neck or mock neck tops to balance out the ultra high rise proportion, but since this blouse had a lot of visual weight and some extra volume from the poofiness, I really how it worked out.The pants were great here since the wide-wale cords mimicked the cupcake wrapper imprints. And from a pure outfit perspective, I liked its texture combo with the woven oxfords, especially with the lighter cuff adding a little breathing space between them.

More sweet stuff

ABT's Whipped Cream

The costume design for the American Ballet Theater's show Whipped Cream by Mark Ryden are pretty great. They're on the literal side, as the ballet is Nutcracker-esque in that the plot mostly is a series of weird dream sequences induced by overindulgence in sweets, but they were really fun and fluffy, and I loved seeing all the different headpieces.I couldn't find any in-depth articles on the costume design, but you can see a little more on interiordesign.net and Elle.

Shoe Bakery

I think I've mentioned this on a previous Links of the Whatever post, but there's a fun indie footwear brand called Shoe Bakery which makes over-the-top dessert themed shoes. It's not something I see myself ever wearing, but I really appreciate how well all the dessert types are fit into the various shoe silhouettes.Baking isn't really my thing as a hobby, but it was really fun revisiting the theme from the fashion perspective for this post 🍨
